Daily Bread - January 11, 2019 (The Sixth Day - Genesis 1:24-31)
Written by Pastor Mark Spitsbergen

Genesis 15:6 - Abram believed the Lord, and He credited it to him as
righteousness.

Habakkuk 2:4 - Look, his soul is lifted up; it is not upright in him; but
the just shall live by his faith.

Hebrews 11:1-2 - Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the
evidence of things not seen. For by it the men of old obtained a good
report.

Faith finds its ancient roots in the confidence and certainty that men had
in the reliability of God (Genesis 15:6; Habakkuk 2:4). God gives us the
ability to be certain about Who He is and what He has promised. Faith is
the certainty and firmness in the faithfulness of God and the commitments
He has made, because He is the God of truth. Faith knows God is dependable,
and it exhibits a faithfulness to God by the one who counts God as
dependable; which is to say, God is dependable and therefore I will be
faithful to Him. It is a reliance upon the One Who can be relied upon. It
is faithfulness to the One Who is faithful. It is truth towards the One Who
is truthful. All of these expressions are discovered in those Hebrew words
communicating the Old Testament concept of faith: אֱמֶת ; אֹמֶן ;אָמֵן
;אָמָּן אֵמֻן אֱמוּנָה אֲמָנָה אֻמְנָם אָמְנָם

(...faith is an assurance, a certainty, in contrast with modern concepts of
faith as something possible, hopefully true, but not certain. -Scott, J. B.
(1999). 116 אָמַן. R. L. Harris, G. L. Archer Jr., & B. K. Waltke (Eds.),
Theological Wordbook of the Old Testament)

Think faith, speak faith, live faith, and do faith!
