Daily Bread - February 11, 2019 (The Second Day - Genesis 1:6-8)

Ephesians 5:22 - Wives be in submission to your own husbands as to the Lord.

The definition of submission needs little debate, regardless of language.
If the Greek word 'huptassao' is evaluated, it means what its English
equivalent means, "to place under." Furthermore, it is more perfectly
defined in its context of the way we are to interact with the Lord. Wives
are to submit to their husbands, just as they submit to the Lord, as the
Church submits to Christ, as a man submits to Christ, and as Christ submits
to His Father. Submission defines the relationship of those who have
authority to those who are under that authority. This is the authority and
order that God, not men, has defined. To rebel against it is the same as
disagreeing with God about adultery, murder, or any other form of iniquity.
In reality, rebellion could be considered the chief of all sin.

However, in a world governed by the spirit of disobedience, submission is
despised and regarded as controlling, exploitive, and oppressive. Nothing
could be further from the truth when it comes to the Kingdom of God and the
rule of Christ Jesus! Unfortunately, people tend to be most influenced by
the popular opinion of their culture, and they fail to realize God knows
better. We should want the Lord to tell us what to do, because He is the
only One with the right answers. Only by walking in His wisdom and insight
will we find ourselves blessed and secure. Be certain of this: regardless
of how little we are able to understand the ways of God, if we will obey
His instructions, we will inherit every good and perfect thing. When you
understand that the opposite of submission is rebellion, then you realize
that submission is the only right way!

According to this verse, however much a wife is submitted to her husband,
that is how much she is really submitted to the Lord. When a woman follows
the leadership God has provided, then her whole house is blessed. Her
children become great men and women of God, and her husband becomes an
honorable man (Proverbs 31:23). If she is an argumentative and manipulative
woman, she plucks down her house with her own hands (Proverbs 14:1).

God resists the proud, but gives grace to the humble! (James 4:6; 1 Peter
5:5)
