Daily Bread – January 9, 2024 (The Third Day – Genesis 1:9-13) John 17:22 – And I have given them the glory that You have given Me, so that they may be one, just as We are one. John reveals many things specific to the glory Jesus had received from the Father. He begins with the glory they beheld in Him “as the glory of the only begotten from the Father, full of grace and truth” (John 1:14). When Jesus turned the water into wine in Cana of Galilee, He was manifesting His glory (John 2:11). When Jesus raised Lazarus from the dead, it was for the purpose of revealing the glory of God in Him (John 11:4). Jesus was given the Spirit without measure to empower Him to reveal the Father’s glory (John 3:34). However, one of the most unbelievable, and almost unspeakable things is that Jesus has given the believer the same glory the Father gave Him. Jesus has given this glory to us as a free gift. He has given us the glory of sonship and the glory of the Baptism in the Holy Spirit (John 1:12, 14:15-17, 16:12-14, 7:38-39). He has given us the ability to speak the words of the Father and do His works – and even greater works than He did (John 14:12). The glory He has given to us has made us one with the Father and with Himself. Paul also revealed to the saints in Corinth how the glory of Jesus was in them when he said, “And all of us, with an unveiled face, beholding the glory of the Lord in a mirror, are transfigured into the same image from glory to glory as by the Spirit of the Lord.” (2 Corinthians 3:18).
