Daily Bread – December 21, 2023 (The Fifth Day – Genesis 1:20-23) Luke 1:35 – And the angel, answering, said to her, “The Holy Spirit shall come upon you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you. Therefore, the Holy One that shall be born shall be called ‘The Son of God.’ And behold, your cousin Elizabeth, she has also conceived a son in her old age. And this is her sixth month, though she was called barren. For with God, nothing shall be impossible.” The Holy Spirit has always served a central role in everything God has done. From the beginning, we read of His role as the One Who moved upon the face of the waters to bring forth that which the Word of God announced (Genesis 1:2; Psalms 104:30). Now, at this time, the Holy Spirit overshadows a young virgin named Mary so the Word might be made flesh. The Holy Spirit, Who is equated with the Most High in this verse, brings forth the greatest miracle of Creation – Christ Jesus! The first mention of the Holy Ghost in the New Testament is discovered in His role in the birth of Christ Jesus. His work was not only essential to the conception of Jesus, but His work has been and will continue to be essential to the manifestation of Jesus (John 7:39, 14:26, 15:26, 16:12-15; Acts 1:8, 4:8,31; and 1 Thessalonians 1:5; Hebrews 2:4). Without the present work of the Holy Spirit, no one can be born again. It may be said that the Holy Ghost will come upon you, and you will become a new man. By the power of the Holy Ghost, we are all born of God when we call upon the Lord Jesus (John 1:13, 3:3-7; Titus 3:5; Galatians 6:15; 2 Corinthians 5:17). And by the power of the Holy Spirit, Jesus is revealed to us and in our lives (John 16:13-15; Galatians 1:16, 2:20; 1 John 3:24; Philippians 1:21). Blessings, Pastor Mark Spitsbergen
