Colossians 1:9 – Because of this also, from the day we heard, ceased not to pray for you; also asking that you might be filled with the knowledge of His will in all wisdom and spiritual understanding.

Part 1 ~ The Knowledge Of God

The knowledge of God is far more than those things we know about God – it is those things which God Himself knows. The knowledge of God is established in our lives by the Word of God and by the Spirit of God. We can only begin to have the ability to know and understand those things described in the Word of God because we have been born of the Spirit (1 Corinthians 2:10-12). It is the Word of God that is the foundation of the knowledge of God and the means by which all spiritual understanding is acquired. How are we to know anything about the will of God for our lives without the Word of God? The Word of God is the source from which all faith springs! We would not even realize that God wants to save our souls unless we had heard the Word of God (Romans 10:8-17). How would we ever understand how we are to walk with God and be pleasing unto Him without the Word of God to describe these things?

If you desire to go deeper in the revelation of the Spirit, both in and through your life then you must understand the central role which the Word of God plays in this growth (1 Peter 1:23, 25, 2:2; James 1:18, 21; and John 6:63; 1 John 3:9; Hebrews 4:12). Unfortunately, too many of God’s people read the Bible as though it were a history book, or out of a religious duty; and they miss the glory of the fellowship with God. There is a spiritual training and development that God would work in our lives as we read His word. To pause and recognize that the Word of God is His divine utterance that produces divine results, changes everything in our approach and expectation. The Word of God: produces faith; brings forth spiritual maturity; it is Spirit and Life; it is living and powerful and has the ability to create, establish, and strengthen those who would sit in communion with the Holy Spirit as they read. The Word of God is as a seed; and if we will receive His divine utterance into a heart ready to do His will and walk in His ways, then it will spring up and produce the fruits which only the Holy Spirit can bring forth. The Holy Spirit will bring forth both the nature and power of Christ Jesus – some thirty, sixty, and one-hundred times beyond all expectation!
