Daily Bread – May 4, 2023 (The Fifth Day – Genesis 1:20-23) Isaiah 26:3 – You will keep in perfect peace – the one whose mind is firmly established, for in You he trusts. The primary Hebrew word used for “trust” is ‘batach’ which expresses a sense of wellbeing and security coming from having someone in whom you can place your confidence. The Septuagint never uses the Greek word for “faith” (pisteuo) to translate this word; but rather the Greek word which many translate “hope” (elpitzo) in the New Testament, and should probably be translated “confidence” instead. Those who trust in God will live in perfect peace so long as they keep their minds stayed upon God – for God can be relied upon to keep all of His promises (Isaiah 26:3; Psalms 4:8; 2 Corinthians 1:20). This peace God has given us guards our hearts and minds, and protects us from straying away (Philippians 4:7). Those who put their trust in God will never be disappointed (Isaiah 28:16, 45:17, 50:7; Romans 9:33; 1 Chronicles 5:20). God has promised to direct their lives and lead them in the way they should go (Proverbs 3:5-6). They shall walk in joy and gladness (Psalms 16:9,11, 33:21). Above all other things, God has simply called out to mankind from the very beginning to trust Him (Jeremiah 17:5-8; Isaiah 30:15; Proverbs 16:20). We may safely trust in God because He has an unwavering loyalty of love for us. Everything He has promised, He stands over to perform for those who will only trust Him – so trust Him now.
