Daily Bread – June 30, 2023 (The Sixth Day – Genesis 1:24-31) Romans 8:12-14 – Indeed then, brethren, we are not in debt to the flesh to live after the flesh. For if we live after the flesh, we are about to die; but if by the Spirit you put to death the deeds of the body, you shall live. For as many as are Spirit of God led, these are the sons of God. No Debt To Darkness People who are in debt, or “debtors”, are in bondage, or under obligation to another, to work for them to clear their debt. They are not free to pursue their own interests and live their own lives until that debt is paid. Those who are in Christ Jesus, however, have no debt. All of our debt has been paid in full by Jesus Christ, and now we are no longer under any obligation to the powers of darkness, nor a sin cursed world. Paul said to the Church at Galatia, if “you sow to the flesh, you shall of the flesh reap corruption”; and he says basically the same thing here (Galatians 6:8). The Greek phrase used for “about to die” is ‘mellete hapothnskein’ which literally means, “to be about to – about to die”, because ‘mello’ means “to be about to”, and ‘apothnesko’ means “about to die”. However, those who walk in the Spirit, or sow to the Spirit, will live. Although, it is appointed unto every man to die, there is a quality of life Paul is testifying to – a life free of sin, sickness, and disease. Blessings, Pastor Mark Spitsbergen
