Daily Bread 7/27/2023

Daily Bread – July 27, 2023 (The Fifth Day – Genesis 1:20-23) Luke 8:15 – But that in the good ground are those who hear the Word, hold it fast in an honorable and good heart, bring forth fruit by perseverance. Perseverance There is yet another word in this verse that speaks of the proper response to the Word of God that is heard, and it is the Greek word translated “perseverance” (hypomone). In the Old Testament, it is translated by words that mean to “wait on God” or “cleave to God.” By waiting on God, we renew our strength, and in cleaving to God, we escape the disastrous traps of wrong choices (Isaiah 40:31; Deuteronomy 4:4). God’s Word and His desires are unchanging. They are the same today as they were in the eternal past, and will be the same in the eternal future. God desires us to love Him, to serve Him, to walk in His ways of life, and to cleave unto Him (Deuteronomy 10:20, 11:22, 13:4, 30:20; Joshua 22:5; and Acts 11:23; Romans 12:9; John 1:15, 15:10; 1 John 5:2-3). If we receive the Word of God as the treasure and gift of life that it is, then we will hold it fast and cleave to it more than to our own lives – for in it, our lives will be preserved and all the treasure of God revealed.
