Daily Bread – August 8, 2023 (The Third Day – Genesis 1:9-13) Matthew 4:19 – And He said to them, “Come, follow Me, and I will make you fishers of men.” Imitators Of God The very nature of salvation is that we no longer live but Christ Jesus lives (Galatians 2:20). It would be impossible to describe a more strict discipline of following Jesus than to understand how it is His life that we now live. Everyone who receives the glorious new birth is commanded to put on Christ, to walk in His footsteps, and to participate in the Kingdom of God and the Body of Christ (Galatians 3:27; 1 Corinthians 12:7-28; 2 Corinthians 5:14; Romans 6:4; Ephesians 2:6; 1 Peter 2:21-22; Galatians 5:25). Paul echoes the words of Jesus to the entire Church of His day and says, “Follow me, even as I follow Christ.” And, of course, Paul fully followed Christ in life and demonstration of the Spirit (1 Corinthians 11:1). How can we think God has any less of a purpose for our lives when we have been born of the same Spirit and made heirs and co-inheritors with Christ? We have become sons and daughters of the Most High God – commissioned to be the light to the world and imitators of God! How would it, then, be possible to conclude that God expects us to do anything less than to follow Christ Jesus, the model Son, Who showed us how to do the will of the Father, and be ambassadors of Heaven, and preach the Gospel of the Kingdom?
