Daily Bread – February 28, 2024 (The Fourth Day – Genesis 1:14-19) Psalms 63:1 – O God, You are my God, early will I seek You. My soul is thirsty for You, my flesh longs for You as one in a dry and thirsty land where there is no water. The Rivers Of God’s Life Giving Presence There were three great miracle events in the wilderness describing God’s divine provision of the water of life flowing to His people. Each time the miracle took place, the Israelites were at the point of death because they were so thirsty for water. The first time water came forth from a rock, God commanded Moses to strike the rock. This is also a picture of Christ Jesus (Who is that spiritual Rock) being struck at Calvary so the life of the Spirit might flow to us. The second time Moses was only to speak to the rock. Now that Christ Jesus has carried our sins away in His own body, we only need to ask Him – and the waters of the Holy Spirit will flow to us. Finally, after the crossing at Kadesh, the leaders and nation of Israel were commanded to gather around the Spring at Be’er, but there was no visible spring. The way the spring would appear to satisfy their thirsty souls would be through a song of faith. “Spring up, oh Well!” was their song, and as they sang, they dug with their staves of authority, and made room for the water which God would supply. Jesus calls today for all who are thirsty. If you are thirsty, desperate for this life of God, then He will give you to drink. However, if we are not careful, the cultures and models of a modern world and a religion which serves the interests of men will steal away our thirst, and we will sit lifeless and lethargic in His glorious Church. With wrong motives and desires, the desperate need for the Holy Spirit will no longer exist within our souls. In such a state of shameful religion, we would have forgotten the splendor and heavenly rapture of His presence. We would have lost all connection with the glory of His sweet and gentle touch, which causes all earthly things to disappear. The reality of Jesus, our fellowship with the Father, and our heavenly citizenship would all be just ideas and concepts. The One Who reveals the truth, Who causes our eyes to see, will supply His water of life to the thirsty soul that cries out to the Rock for a drink of His presence. God will only respond to truth and nothing superficial – thirst is never superficial. If our soul would seek Him, He will be found. We really need Him more than anything else and He will awaken our soul to reality. When we approach Him with an honest and sincere heart, we will be immersed in the rivers of His presence (Isaiah 41:17-18). Blessings, Pastor Mark Spitsbergen
