Email from Abiding Place Daily Bread – November 13, 2024 (The Fourth Day – Genesis 1:14-19) Acts 2:1-4 – And on the day that Pentecost came, they were all of one purpose in the same place. And suddenly there came, out of Heaven, the sound of a violent rushing wind and it filled the whole house where they were seated. And there appeared cloven tongues like fire, and they set down upon each one of them. And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit spoke forth from them. Fire Always Associated With God’s Presence Fire has always been associated with God’s divine presence. The covenant was confirmed to Abraham as the fire passed through the middle of the sacrifice Abraham had made (Genesis 15:17). When Moses first encountered God, he encountered the fire of God; and it was from that fire, God’s voice was heard (Exodus 3:2-3). The fire-cloud of God came and appeared between Israel and Egypt the day they were delivered from slavery. From the fire-cloud, the face of God appeared – a cloud that was for protection, shelter, and guidance. God Almighty filled Mount Sinai with His shekinah glory, and the mountain appeared to be altogether on fire with His majesty (Exodus 19:16-20). Our God is a consuming fire, and He is the God Who answers by fire and is clothed with light as with a garment (Deuteronomy 4:24; Ezekiel 1:4; Psalm 18:12-14, 104:2,4; 1 Kings 19:11-12; Hebrews 12:29). During the first Pentecost, if anything touched the mountain where God’s fire and glory had set down, it had to be killed (Exodus 19:13). Now, because of the cleansing and redeeming blood of Jesus Christ, the fire and glory of God comes to rest on each of the hundred and twenty people present in the upper-room. Because Jesus paid the price for every man when He died at Calvary, His majesty and glory was poured forth upon all who would receive. The fire of God came like a mighty rushing wind with tongues of fire and rested upon His disciples, so the whole world might know Jesus was exalted and glorified. The Holy Spirit and fire have come to fill the hearts and mouths of all who will receive, so that God’s voice might be heard throughout the Earth! Blessings, Pastor Mark Spitsbergen
