Email from Abiding Place Daily Bread – December 16, 2024 (The Second Day – Genesis 1:6-8) Jeremiah 6:16 – Hear now Yehovah, “Stand in the way and see, and ask for the everlasting paths, where is the good ways and walk in it, and you shall find rest for your souls.” But they said, “We will not walk in it”. The prophet Jeremiah pleaded with the people of Israel to return to the Lord, but they refused. He did everything he could to help them understand how there was only one way to find rest for their souls and to live a blessed life. The way that he wanted to lead them in was the way God had chosen in the eternal past which was the everlasting way (לִנְתִב֣וֹת עוֹלָ֗ם, len-tevot olam). Jesus spoke of the same way, saying a very similar thing concerning the rest that would come as a result of walking in the “everlasting way.” He said, “Come unto Me all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am meek and lowly in heart, and you shall find rest unto your soul” (Matthew 11:28-29). Men think they know the right way to live. Yet, God in His mercy has shown us in the most dramatic ways possible how life is to be lived. In His mercy and grace, He has also empowered us to live in His ways, but still men refuse to come to Jesus so that they may find rest for their souls. Blessings, Pastor Mark Spitsbergen
