2 Peter 3:14 Beloved, because you look for these things, be diligent, spotless, and blameless in Him, being found in peace.

Examples From Generations Past

We can look back through the generations of men and see that Noah was righteous and blameless before the Lord (Genesis 6:9). God called Abraham to walk before Him and to be blameless (Genesis 17:1). Job was blameless and righteous and turned from all evil (Job 1:1,8, 2:3). Those who are truly blessed are those who are blameless walking in the ways of God (Psalms 119:1).  Enoch pleased God and was taken up into Heaven alive (Genesis 5:24). Samuel and Daniel are also examples of those who walked in righteousness before the Almighty (1 Samuel 2:26; Psalm 99:6; Ezekiel 14:20). Even right up until the time of the birth of Christ Jesus there were those like Zachariah and Elizabeth who God said were blameless (Luke 1:6).

All of these men and women could have little claim to what we now possess as those born of the Spirit and freed from the law of sin and death (Romans 8:1-4). At best, they could only have received the Spirit of the Lord in a measure, but we without measure (John 3:34; 1 Corinthians 1:30; Colossians 3:3; Galatians 2:20). How could we ever even begin to think that somehow we should live a life less pleasing to God in true righteousness and holiness (Luke 1:74-75; Ephesians 4:24)!

Blessings,
