Email from Abiding Place Daily Bread – May 22, 2025 (The Fifth Day – Genesis 1:20-23) Matthew 6:22 – The light of the body is the eye — therefore, if your eye is single, your whole body is full of light. Choose to Find Your Delights in God If you want to walk in the Spirit and mind the things of the Spirit, then you have to recognize that your affections have to be sorted out. If you want hunger and thirst for the things of the Kingdom to increase within your desires, then you cannot continue to live with a divided heart. Your affections, which are the delights of your eye, have to become single upon a heavenly interest and not distracted with the affairs and cares of this life. The Holy Spirit would fill you with the reality of the goodness of God so that the Kingdom of God would be more important to you than anything else. Never again would you sit in Church sad and detached. There in the House of God you would find all the things that make your heart rejoice. Are not God’s ways better than what we find with men, even including ourselves? Are not the things of Heaven of exceedingly more value than the temporal pursuits of earthly cares? Why would we let these lesser things take our affections and passions for Him? How can the thoughts of earthly desires occupy the same room with the awesomeness of Heaven? How can self-interest and disappointment compete for a moment with the splendor of Christ? Let your heart take hold of the truth that the Holy Spirit would lead you in – forsake all other pursuits and join with the saints as we find all our delights only in God.
