Malachi 3:18 - And you shall return and discern between the righteous from the wicked, between the one who serves God and the one that does not serve God.

God calls us to be a treasured possession unto Himself (Exodus 19:5-6; Deuteronomy 14:2; Deuteronomy 26:18; Psalm 135:4; 1 Peter 2:9; Titus 2:14). All He has asked is that we will walk in righteousness and serve Him. In reality, this is saying the same thing twice in parallel ways, for to serve God is to walk in righteousness. One may say, “What could be more obvious than the difference between what is righteous and wicked – seeing as they are as opposite as day and night?” Unfortunately, when people become deceived they lose their way and they put good for evil, and evil for good (Isaiah 5:20; Romans 3:8; Ephesians 4:18-19; Jude 1:4; 2 Corinthians 11:14-15; Psalm 52:1-9).

The only way back is to take heed unto the Word of God, which is as a light shining in a dark place (2 Peter 1:19; Psalm 119:105). The Word of God will give us the ability to discern between what is good and what is evil (2 Timothy 3:16; Isaiah 7:15; Hebrews 5:13-14; 2 Corinthians 6:7; 1 Thessalonians 2:13; Titus 2:12). The Lord God continually cries out to us, asking us to depart from evil and do good (Psalm 34:14; Psalm 37:27; Romans 12:9; 1 Peter 3:10-11; 3 John 1:11). Jesus makes it really simple for everyone to understand. He says, “And shall come forth, they that have done good unto the resurrection of life, and they that have done evil unto the resurrection of damnation” (John 5:29). Come now, let us serve the Lord and walk in righteousness (Romans 6:13,16; Romans 6:19; Romans 8:4; 1 Corinthians 15:34; 2 Corinthians 6:14; 1 Timothy 6:11; 2 Timothy 2:22; Ephesians 5:9; 1 John 2:29; Isaiah 32:17).
