Email from Abiding Place     Daily Bread – May 31, 2025 (The Seventh Day – Genesis 2:1-3) Acts 1:8 – But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes upon you, and you shall be My witnesses both in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and unto the farthest reaches of the Earth. The Holy Spirit Given to the Church – Glorifying Jesus The coming of the Holy Spirit was and is the proof of the exaltation of Jesus. The greater works would be the proof that Jesus was resurrected and glorified (John 7:38-39; Acts 2:33). It would only be when the Holy Spirit came that God’s people would be empowered with all these things to testify of the glorified Jesus (John 14:26; Acts 1:8). The Holy Spirit would be the direct connection to the heavenly ministry of Jesus, and His heavenly works would be greater than His earthly ones (John 16:13-15). The giving of the Holy Spirit and His divine empowerment could only happen once Jesus returned to the Father (John 7:39; Acts 2:33, 16:7, 17:1). These things describe the high water marks of the Church. This is the ministry we are called to have, and what makes the Church complete. These things are impossible to have without the Holy Spirit. We must have a revival of Pentecost so that we may learn again how to yield to the One Who has brought all of these riches of God’s glory into our lives The event of Jesus going to the Father was also equated with the phrase “in” or “at that day” (John 14:20, 16:23, 26). At the time Jesus went away, the Holy Spirit would come. The coming of the Holy Spirit would enable the disciples to know Jesus was in the Father and the Father was in Jesus (John 14:20). The revelation only the Holy Spirit could bring would cause the disciples to know that not only was Jesus in the Father and the Father in Jesus, but also the disciples and all who would believe shared the same mutual indwelling. Because of the indwelling of the Holy Spirit, they would come to know they also were in Christ Jesus and Jesus in them in the same way. Jesus said, “At that day you shall know that I am in my Father, and you in me, and I in you” (John 14:20, 23). By the indwelling and empowerment of the Holy Spirit, Christ Jesus would dwell in us (1 John 3:24). Just as Jesus knew it was the Father Who did the work, we would come to know it was Jesus Who does the works. This revelation, that only the Holy Spirit can bring, is needed now more than ever. At the heart of this revelation, we learn to move in union with all the Holy Spirit is doing to glorify Jesus. As Jesus revealed the Father to Israel, the Holy Spirit would reveal Jesus through us to the world. The Holy Spirit teaches us all things and reveals everything about Christ Jesus. He is the One Who causes our eyes to see and our ears to hear. He is the One Who both reveals Jesus and glorifies Jesus. By Him, we are all baptized into one body and are empowered to function as the body of Christ. He is the One Who divides the gifts to each person according to His own will so the Church may be adorned with the glory of Jesus. By the Holy Spirit, a person can have the revelation of Who Jesus is and say He is Lord. This work of the Holy Spirit is what we earnestly contend for today. Blessings, Pastor Mark Spitsbergen
