Email from Abiding Place     Daily Bread – November 15, 2024 (The Sixth Day – Genesis 1:24-31) Acts 2:1-4 – And on the day that Pentecost came, they were all of one purpose in the same place. And suddenly there came, out of Heaven, the sound of a violent rushing wind and it filled the whole house where they were seated. And there appeared cloven tongues like fire, and they set down upon each one of them. And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit spoke forth from them. The Fullness Of The Anointing Of Jesus The fullness of the anointing of Jesus has now been poured out as the promise of the Father upon all who will believe. We have been empowered with the same anointing of the Holy Spirit so we might represent Jesus (Ephesians 4:13; John 1:16; Matthew 20:22-23; Luke 24:49; Romans 15:19; Hebrews 2:4; Mark 16:17; 1 Corinthians 12:7). The Father desires that we walk in the fullness of the anointing of His Son, so we might be witnesses of His life and resurrection (Galatians 4:5-7; Romans 8:17,29). We have received the anointing that comes by being filled with the Spirit without measure, so that we might beseech the world in Christ’s stead and be able ministers of the New Covenant. Luke does not use the definite article with ‘pneumatos hagiou,’ Holy Spirit. Therefore, the correct translation is “a holy spirit”. Recognizing how the actual person, The Holy Spirit, would not actually enter into anyone’s body, it is understandable that the person of the Holy Spirit fills the recipient with His holy spirit. Also, recalling what the prophet Ezekiel said, “A new heart also will I give you, and a new spirit will I put within you: and I will take away the stony heart out of your flesh, and I will give you an heart of flesh. And I will put my spirit within you,” (Ezekiel 36:26-27), we further understand that the person the Holy Spirit Who would be properly identified with the definite article did not enter the hundred and twenty gathered in the Upper Room, but “a holy spirit” from Him was given to them. This time, instead of God speaking out of the midst of the fire from the mountain, He declares His Covenant from the mouth of man. From that moment until this very hour, the rivers of Living Water have been pouring forth from the bellies of those who have received the Holy Spirit (John 7:38-39). The verb ‘apophthengesthai’ means to “speak out, or declare boldly”. The same boldness is also heard in Peter when he begins to minister in his own native dialect (Acts 2:14, 4:8).
