Email from Abiding Place     Daily Bread – November 19, 2024 (The Third Day – Genesis 1:9-13) Proverbs 10:4 – He will become poor through slacking off; but the hand of the diligent shall make rich. Diligently Sowing To Spiritual Things Everyone should desperately desire the spiritual, and sow to the things of the Spirit by diligently applying themselves first to the Word of God and prayer (1 Corinthians 12:31, 14:1; Acts 20:32; Colossians 3:16; Jude 1:20; Galatians 6:8; Ephesians 6:18; 1 Thessalonians 5:17). As we diligently sow to the things of the Spirit, the riches of prophecy, the word of knowledge, the word of wisdom, discerning of spirits, working of miracles, gifts of healing, faith, tongues, and interpretation of tongues will grow and mature into the full extent of the operation of the gift. Everything God gives us as a gift must be developed and grow for it to be all He has purposed it to be in our lives. Everything in God’s Creation grows and develops over time. If we are going to grow in the things of God, then we must set proper goals and diligently apply our lives to the things He has given – otherwise, it is neglect. There are those who are naturally born with a music gift, but never develop the gift through discipline and training. This is not unlike the gifts which God gives to us by the Spirit. Also in view of this, if we are in the music ministry for example, and do not apply ourselves to music, but expect that it will all happen without our diligent application – then there will never be the increase and rich blessing God has purposed for those who function in this ministry. The same holds true for every dimension of ministry in the Spirit. If we rarely open our Bibles but expect the Word of God to richly flow out with divine revelation and power, we will be disappointed. God wants fruit. He wants to bless us with the riches of Heaven, but we cannot sit and stare at the field and expect all the blessing of God to grow unless we set our hand to the work and apply ourselves to the purpose (Matthew 21:43; John 15:2,5,16). If we are going to grow and develop in God, we must give ourselves with all diligence to that growth, and the application of our lives to the things of the Kingdom. If our time and focus are consumed only by earthly interests, then we may do well in those interests because of our diligent application, but the more important spiritual things will remain small and have little impact through our lives.
