Email from Abiding Place Daily Bread – March 11, 2025 (The Third Day – Genesis 1:9-13) Galatians 2:21 – I do not invalidate the grace of God. For if being made righteous comes through the law, then Christ died for no reason. God did not give the Law to Moses as a means to attain righteousness. Although the apostle Paul said concerning the righteousness that was by the Law that he was blameless, it was still never the purpose of the Law to make one righteous (Philippians 3:6). Paul recognized how even though he was blameless with regards to keeping the Law, still He knew that true righteousness, the righteousness of God, could not come by the Law (Galatians 2:21, 3:21; Romans 3:22-25). The Law was added to the Promise because of transgression against the Promise (Galatians 3:19). The Promise was all about the coming Seed (Galatians 3:16). The purpose of the Law was to serve as the means by which the Children of Israel would be set apart unto God and separated from the idolatry of the nations around them. It would be a schoolmaster to bring them to Christ (Galatians 3:24). Even though Israel followed the Law, they did not attain the righteousness of the Law – they never approached it as Abraham did (Romans 9:31). They always saw it as a means to an end in itself and refused to see how it would be abolished when the Seed would come (2 Corinthians 3:13). However, even though Israel missed the point altogether, there was a remnant of the people who, like Abraham, would walk with God and believe in the coming Seed. Through the remnant, God would bring forth the Seed, the Redeemer, Christ Jesus. God raised up a young girl who was highly favored, a young virgin named Mary, from this remnant. He raised up a righteous man like Joseph to be her husband (Matthew 1:19). He had a righteous man like Simeon to witness His arrival (Luke 2:25). He had two righteous servants like Zachariah and Elizabeth to bring forth His prophet (Luke 1:5-6). Their righteousness was not because they kept the Law, but like Abraham and all the other righteous ones named in the Old Testament, they had faith in the coming Seed, Christ Jesus.
