Email from Abiding Place     Daily Bread – March 4, 2025 (The Third Day – Genesis 1:9-13) Habakkuk 2:4 – Behold he who is lifted up, his soul is not upright in him; but the righteous shall live by his faith. Examples of the Righteous Living by Faith There were many who responded to the Word of the Lord in the Old Testament, and like Abraham, believed God and it was accounted to them for righteousness. Like Abraham, they walked with God by faith. Enoch walked with God and so pleased God that He was translated into Heaven. There were others in the Old Testament that pleased God, and we know they walked by faith because without faith it is impossible to please God. Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob walked with God. Moses, Joshua, and Samuel walked with God and many more who are named in the Old Testament. When Paul spoke of the great exploits of faith of the great cloud of witnesses named in Hebrews 11, they were the company who believed God and were the righteous who live by faith (Hebrews 10:38). They all had one thing in common: they all believed God and obeyed. The many examples of those who heard the word of the Lord and believed always had a corresponding action of obedience (Hebrews 11:4-38). Job is one of the great examples of those who walked with God. He was God’s champion. God was able to boast of one man on the Earth that was perfect and upright. Abraham was the friend of God, the one the Almighty God swore an oath to. Moses was allowed to see God in the fullness of His glory. God did not let one of Samuel’s words fall to the ground. David was a man after God’s own heart. Isaiah was the one whose sin was taken away and his iniquity purged. God put His Word in Jeremiah’s mouth. Daniel was a man greatly beloved of God. Simeon was a righteous man. Zechariah and Elisabeth were both righteous before the Lord. Mary was highly favored by God and Joseph was a righteous man. All of the prophets of old were referred to as holy men through whom the Holy Spirit spoke. Today, all who will believe the Gospel are made righteous by the faith of Jesus Christ, the faith that resulted in us being recreated in righteousness and true holiness (Ephesians 4:24).
