Email from Abiding Place     Daily Bread – March 5, 2025 (The Fourth Day – Genesis 1:14-19) Galatians 3:11 – Now it is evident that no one is righteous before God by the law, for the righteous live by faith! The Purpose of the Law for the Promise of the New Covenant Righteousness could not come by the Law. The Law was not given to make someone righteous. The Law was given to make sin appear exceedingly sinful. The Law was given by God, and it was spiritual – but was powerless to change the heart of man. The Law could not impart the life of God, but instead, could only reveal sin. God’s plan was to bring forth a Seed, not a Law. It was His plan to redeem mankind and bring them back into oneness with Himself. It was God’s desire to bring forth a new creation. It was God’s desire to break the stronghold of sin and iniquity that imprisoned the lives of men. He purposed to set us free from all the claims of death and sin that possessed men because of disobedience. The Law became the means by which God would have a people consecrated to Himself to bring forth His Son. To raise His Son under the Law and the commandments of the Lord (Galatians 4:4). All those under the Law were just as those under tutors and governors until the appointed time would come. The Law could only be a shadow of good things to come and not the very image. The Law could never bring forth the promise of God because it was weak, being dependent upon the ability of man. It was no more the provision and remedy for the spiritual condition of men than Ismael was the promised son of Abraham. It could point to the Redeemer and Life Giver, but could never redeem and impart the life of God. God promised to bring forth a New Covenant through which He could create within His people a new heart and a new spirit, and put His Spirit within us. It was for this purpose God came, and lived, and died, and rose again to establish a New Covenant. The Word was made flesh so we could be born of the Word and have the laws and commandments of the Lord written on our hearts and minds (Hebrews 8:10, 10:16). This is the faith Jesus announced to Nicodemus, the ruler of the Jews. Mankind would need to be born again! They were born in sin under the dominion of sin, but now God had provided a way for them to be born of God by the Spirit of God to live under the reign of God, Christ Jesus – and to keep His ways and to not depart from them (Jeremiah 31:31-34)! The New Covenant is all about being born again. The faith of the New Covenant is the power and ability to be made a new creation. To attempt to make the faith of the New Covenant something less than God’s desire fulfilled for man is an error. The Lord has found no fault with this Covenant. He has made us everything He proposed to make us through His own power and ability, and gave His Son to do it. God gave us all His fullness and made us complete in Christ Jesus. God has given Himself to perfect everything concerning us. God in His righteousness provided redemption for as many as would receive. Blessings, Pastor Mark Spitsbergen
