Email from Abiding Place     Daily Bread – April 28, 2025 (The Second Day – Genesis 1:6-8) John 14:16 – And I will ask the Father, and He will give you another Paraclete, Who will remain with you forever. The Holy Spirit Took the Place of Jesus as the Parakletos As the Parakletos, the Holy Spirit is the One Who took the place of Jesus, and so functions in a similar way. Just as Jesus was the One Who revealed the Father, the Holy Spirit reveals Jesus. The Holy Spirit, as the Spirit of truth, reveals the truth and guides us into all the truth, keeping us from error. The Holy Spirit becomes the continuing presence of Jesus in the Church, but even more, brings Christ Jesus into our lives. The Holy Spirit, as the Parakletos, must also be understood as the One Who convinces all of sin and of righteousness and of judgment (John 16:7-11). This is a work He not only does in ministering to us, but also how He would minister through us. He reproves, convicts, and exposes sin, righteousness, and judgments. This work of the Holy Spirit is captured in the Greek word ἐλέγχω (elencho). The meaning of this word also includes “to convince.” The whole of the ministry of those anointed to preach the Gospel may be summarized in the convincing of men of turning away from sin, the establishment of righteousness in Christ Jesus, and the final judgment executed against the dominion of Satan. The Holy Spirit draws all men to the light of the revelation of God’s salvation, and there ‘reproves’ them of their sin (John 3:20; Titus 2:11-12; 2 Peter 3:9). Blessings Pastor Mark Spitsbergen
