Daily Bread – July 11, 2022 (The Second Day – Genesis 1:6-8) 1 John 4:2 – By this we know the Spirit of God: every spirit that confesses that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is from God. Agreeing With God’s Testimony Of Jesus Confessing that Christ Jesus has come in the flesh is agreeing with God. God became flesh, and is purely divine and human. Furthermore, He delights to remain so for all eternity. God became flesh so that He might die for us; and through Him, we who were dead are made alive (Ephesians 2:1; Colossians 2:13; 1 John 5:12). Although essential for us to recognize that God (Who is called the Word) was made flesh 2,000 years ago, we must also recognize we are in Him and He is in us. Now, because we have been born of God and made one with Him, the greater One lives on the inside of us; and by Him, we have overcome the world (1John 4:2, 4). This indwelling presence of Jesus is witnessed by the love of God and by the operation of the Holy Spirit in our lives – the proof we were begotten of God. Keep in mind the theme of this first epistle of John is fellowship with God, and exposing those who say they have fellowship, but really walk in darkness and are deceivers. Therefore, a proof must be established to effectively demonstrate who is of the Spirit of truth. Those who are of the truth overcome the world and walk in the love of God because of the indwelling presence of Jesus. Blessings, Pastor Mark Spitsbergen
