Daily Bread – July 18, 2024 (The Fifth Day – Genesis 1:20-23) 2 Timothy 1:13-14 – Follow the example of sound words that you have heard from me, in faith and love which are in Christ Jesus. Keep that precious thing entrusted to you through the Holy Spirit that dwells in you. Although there may be a number of things one may consider to be “that precious thing” entrusted to us, there is nothing so precious as the gift of salvation. The gift of salvation brought forth the miracle of a new creation. We should count the new creation as sacred and precious – and protect it by the Holy Ghost. The defilements of the world would rush in upon us and attempt to pollute that which is holy and pure, but through the power of the Holy Spirit, we have a strong an impenetrable defense (Psalm 46; Romans 8:32-39; Ephesians 6:10-17). We are to build up ourselves in the most holy faith, praying in the Holy Ghost (Jude 1:20-25). We are to walk in the Spirit, so the righteousness revealed by the law might be fulfilled in us (Romans 8:4, 14:17). We are to walk in the Spirit so we will not participate in the lust of the flesh (Galatians 5:16; Romans 8:9). By the power of God, we are kept, but we must yield ourselves to the Holy Spirit and walk in the way He desires to lead us (1 Peter 1:5; Romans 6:19-22; 1 John 5:18; Romans 8:14-17; John 16:13).
