Daily Bread - August 31, 2026 (The Second Day - Genesis 1:6-8)
John 14:13-14 – Now whatever you ask in My name, I will do it, so that the Father may be glorified in the Son. If you ask anything of Me in My name, I will do it.
The Greek ‘poiein’ is the verb “do” in these verses, and describes the action of Christ Jesus on the behalf of the one who is in union with Him. God has not prescribed a formula for having prayers answered. He has given power and authority to those who are in union with Jesus, as Jesus was and is in the Father (John 14:10-11, 20). The certainty of God’s pledge is exemplified in these verses: John 14:13 “Whatever you ask in My Name, I will do it.”; John 14:14 ”If you ask anything in My Name, I will do it.”; John 15:16 ”Whatever you ask the Father in My Name, He will give it you.”; John 16:23 ”If you ask anything of the Father in My Name, He will give it you.”; John 16:24 ”Ask, and you shall receive”; John 15:7 ”Ask what you will, and it shall be done for you.”
“Glorification” in the phrase “glorified in the Son” speaks of the most awesome display of God’s power and presence. Now that Jesus has ascended to the Father, He will do the works in the believer so that the Father will be glorified. The glory the Son, Christ Jesus, has presently is greater than the glory He manifested while in the flesh. Jesus Christ has now been exalted to the right hand of the Father and given a Name greater than all others. The glory He had with the Father before the world came into being has been given to Him (John 17:5).
