Email from Abiding Place Daily Bread – May 30, 2025 (The Sixth Day – Genesis 1:24-31) Acts 1:8 – But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes upon you, and you shall be My witnesses both in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and unto the farthest reaches of the Earth. The Holy Spirit Given to the Church – Jesus’ Greater Works Ministry The Father has given everything He has to Christ Jesus, and the Holy Spirit has received all of that Christ Jesus has and ‘ἀναγγέλλω’ (anangello) reveals, discloses, announces, teaches it to us (John 16:13-15). What God has given to us in Christ Jesus is an unspeakable gift. God desires to fulfill all the good pleasure of His goodness with the work of faith and power in our lives, so that the Name of the Lord Jesus may be glorified in us, and we in Him (2 Thessalonians 1:11-12). The Holy Spirit does all of this to glorify Jesus! Truly, we are blessed with all spiritual blessings in a heavenly realm by the Holy Spirit (Ephesians 1:3). Let us lift up our voices and cry out to God to “strengthen us yet one more time!” One of the most outstanding things that Jesus said was they who believed would not only do the works which He did, but even greater works (John 14:12). This promise is one of the great expressions of Christ Jesus’ love for the lost. The lost will not believe without signs and wonders, so Jesus planned even greater works to reach all the nations of the world (John 4:48; Matthew 24:14). These works we are to do are clearly defined in the context of the miracles which He did. Jesus attributed the works He did to the Father dwelling in Him. In fact, he made the miracles He did the proof of the Father dwelling in Him. In this context, Jesus more specifically introduces the coming of the παράκλητος (parakletos) – Who is the Holy Spirit. He described the Holy Spirit as being the One Who would take His place in leadership for His people. The greater works were described in view of Jesus going to the Father. When Jesus went to the Father, He received this unspeakable gift for us – the Baptism in the Holy Spirit and the empowerment He gives (John 14:12–17, 26, 15:7; Matthew 17:20; Luke 11:13). The Holy Spirit is the One Who empowers the believer with the ministry of Jesus (Matthew 3:11; Luke 24:49; Acts 1:4-8). Blessings, Pastor Mark Spitsbergen
