Email from Abiding Place Daily Bread – November 4, 2024 (The Second Day – Genesis 1:6-8) Psalms 143:2 – And do not enter into judgment with Your servant; for of all the living, none are righteous in Your presence. Why is it impossible for a man to be justified in the sight of God? Because Adam sinned, and when he did, he died spiritually and came under the penalty of eternal death (Genesis 2:17, 3:24; Romans 5:12-21). Subsequently, every person who has come into existence is under the same penalty of death that came upon Adam simply because we came forth from him. There is no one who is exempt. During the days of Moses, God established the Law and separated a family to bring forth the Redeemer. However, the law itself could only reveal men’s sin – only the Redeemer would be able to deliver men from the sin. The law was a testimony to mankind that they were separated from the life and presence of God. This was underscored when God testified at the giving of the Law crying out, “Do not draw near” (Exodus 3:5, 19:21,24; Romans 3:20, 5:20). Additionally, God had Moses make a tent where His presence could dwell among them. On the curtain of the inner tabernacle were the cherubims forbidding Adam and his descendants from entering back into the presence of God (Genesis 3:24; Exodus 26:1, 36:8). These cherubims once again faced man at the entering in of the veil separating the first sanctuary from the Most Holy place. The cherubims were the reminder of how mankind had been driven out from the presence of God, and as yet there was no way back in (Genesis 3:24; Exodus 26:31, 36:35; 2 Chronicles 3:14; Hebrews 9:8).
